The Viridarium Index is a living repository of plant safety knowledge for vivarium and terrarium keepers. It currently catalogs 358 species — each researched against seven commonly kept animals and rated using cited primary sources rather than hearsay.
Every entry pairs its safety ratings with a confidence level and links to the research behind it — sources like the ASPCA, VCA Animal Hospitals, Pet Poison Helpline, ReptiFiles, and Tortoise Trust — so you can see not just what we concluded, but why.
This is a living document. New species, updated ratings, and refined research notes are added continually as the body of evidence grows — so a plant marked Unknown today may earn a rating tomorrow. Check back often, and treat the Index as a starting point for your own verification, never a substitute for it.
